Modified Tiered Response Training (M-TRT)

This program meets or exceeds the guidelines originally set down by the Ministry of Health, Emergency Health Services Branch in Ontario, Canada. This course provides participants with the knowledge; skills and techniques required to manage medical & trauma emergencies prior arrival of paramedics, and to assist EMS personnel once on scene.

Participants will gain knowledge in the following areas:

  • Roles & Responsibilities
  • Legal Considerations for the first responder
  • Scene assessment
  • Communicable disease
  • Patient assessment
  • ABC’s
  • C-Spine control
  • Identifying medical or trauma patients
  • Respiratory emergencies
  • Cardiac emergencies
  • Clearing the airway with a suction unit
  • Emergency oxygen use
  • Ventilatory support via BVM
  • Adjunct airway use – Oral & Nasal
  • SAM program – Self Administered Medications
  • Nitro Spray, Ventolin (Salbutimol), Epi Pen
  • Vital signs
  • Hemorrhage control via pressure dressings and pressure points
  • Internal bleeding
  • Secondary assessment
  • Use of mnemonics – SAMPLE, PQRST in assessing a patient
  • Emergency Child Birth (if requested)
